About this site
Derivatives Compass is a site for learning about derivatives, written for practitioners at financial institutions and for the people who build and run their financial systems. It covers how products work, their history, client-facing and internal operations, and regulation in Japan and other jurisdictions, in both Japanese and English.
Every page is free and can be read without registration. We plan to cover running costs with advertising revenue.

How the content is produced
Much of the content on this site is written with AI (Claude, by Anthropic). To keep it accurate, we produce it in the following steps.
- Writing: AI researches mainly primary sources, such as laws and materials from regulators and exchanges, and writes the Japanese version.
- Fact-checking: An AI session separate from the one that wrote the page checks each claim against its sources. A claim for which the relevant passage of a source cannot be shown is not published until a source is added or the claim is removed.
- English version: With the Japanese version as the original, AI translates it into English. An AI session separate from the translation checks that figures and conditions match the Japanese version.
- Review by a person: The site operator reads and checks every regulatory page in Japanese, and a sample of 10% of the pages in each of the other areas.
Each page shows its sources and its last reviewed date. Regulatory pages are reviewed every six months or every year, depending on the area, and their last reviewed dates are updated.
Corrections
If we correct a significant error after a page is published, we show the date and what was corrected on that page. If you notice an error, please let us know through the Contact page.
Access for search engines and AI
This site allows search engine crawlers and AI crawlers, both those used for training and those used for search and retrieval, to read every page. Page text, tables, formulas and figure descriptions are published so that they can be read without running JavaScript.
