The Japan Securities Dealers Association was established in July 1973 as an incorporated association whose members were securities firms across Japan. It was reorganized in July 1992 as an authorized corporation under the Securities and Exchange Act, and became an authorized financial instruments firms association under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act in September 2007, when that Act came into force1. Its members fall into three types: regular members (the financial instruments business operators that conduct Type I financial instruments business), specified business members, and special members (registered financial institutions)1.
Under its articles of association, it carries out self-regulatory work, work that contributes to the development of markets, and international work1. The Financial Instruments and Exchange Act requires the articles to provide for the solicitation by members and for the investigation of whether members comply with laws and the association's rules2. Authorized financial instruments firms associations are subject to inspection and supervision by the Financial Services Agency3. The Association also invested in the establishment of the Japan Securities Clearing Corporation4.
