The formal name is the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The opening of the Act lists its aims, which include promoting financial stability, protecting taxpayers from bailouts, and protecting consumers. The derivatives rules are in Title VII, which covers clearing, trading on trading venues, reporting, registration, and margin and capital for swaps.

The structure of Title VII and the rules it sets out are covered in the article on Dodd-Frank Act Title VII. The Volcker Rule, which restricts banks' proprietary trading, is based on Title VI of the same Act.
