The HKMA built Hong Kong's regulatory framework for OTC derivatives together with the Government and the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). The framework includes the obligation to report to the HKMA's trade repository and the obligation to clear at designated central counterparties1.
The reporting and clearing rules that the SFC makes are made with the HKMA's consent2.
The reporting rules require persons subject to the reporting obligation, such as licensed corporations and authorized financial institutions, to report specified transactions to the HKMA. Trade information is submitted through the electronic reporting system, in accordance with the instructions the HKMA publishes2.
