MiFIR is formally Regulation (EU) No 600/2014. A regulation applies as it stands, without waiting for national legislation. Article 1(1) of MiFIR lists its subject matter: the publication of trade data, transaction reporting to authorities, the trading of derivatives on organised trading venues, non-discriminatory access to clearing and benchmarks, the powers of product intervention and of ESMA position management, and the services of third-country firms1. The authorization of investment firms and related matters are in the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II), adopted on the same date. The article that covers this term explains the details.
