In derivatives, the BIS appears as the publisher of statistics on the outstanding amounts of global OTC derivatives. The BIS and the central banks of major advanced economies have compiled these statistics since the end of June 1998. The Bank of Japan compiles and publishes only the Japan portion, and the BIS publishes the global results that combine the figures of all countries1.

The BIS framework includes the Committee on the Global Financial System (CGFS), the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI), and the Markets Committee (MC), which examine themes such as international finance2.
