At the 2009 G20 Pittsburgh Summit, leaders agreed that standardized OTC derivative contracts should be traded on exchanges or electronic trading platforms where appropriate1. This site uses "electronic trading platform" as a collective term for the swap execution facility (SEF) in the US and the multilateral trading facility (MTF) and organised trading facility (OTF) in the EU.

The text of Japan's Financial Instruments and Exchange Act refers to an electronic trading platform as an "electronic data processing system". A Cabinet Office Order defines "electronic trading platform operation business" as carrying on specified OTC derivative transactions as a business using that system2.
